A wonderful night of music-making in McCann’s Bar, Omagh last night to celebrate the life and music of the late Arty McGlynn who died in December. Fantastic to hear Nollaig Casey playing, backed by Arty’s son Jerome, who also played a sizzling set of jazz to open the night. Eamon McElholm and Shane McAleer were just 2 of the other musicians who contributed sets. Arty’s brother Kieran sang several songs composed by their legendary grandfather Felix Kearney. And Jane was invited up to sing by Nollaig.
Maurice performs at the launch of Folk Park Live: Songs of the Settlers at Belfast’s Ulster Sports Club. Other performers included Cathal Hayden, Mary Dillon, Eily Patterson, Niall Hanna to name but a few. Neil Martin was musical director for the project.
We had a fantastic day on the Sat with a busy meeting followed by a series of talks in the afternoon from Dr. John Moulden, Maurice Leyden, Dr. Conor Caldwell, Fergus Woods, Roisin White and Jim Carroll. Thanks to Bill Wolsey for providing us with the lovely old Ulster Sports Club as the venue for the day. On Sat evening we repaired to the American Bar for a great ‘Home & Away’ session. Then on Sun morning, Maurice and Jane gave their ‘Belfast City of Song’ Walking/Singing Tour of the centre of the city. And not to forget, Martin and Shan Graebe performed in the Sunflower Folk Club on Thurs night. Thanks to everyone who came along to all the events!
